SESSION OCTOBER 12, 2020

The idea of "linking cultures” by Peter Vetter: At the moment I am reading a book on the cultural history of Europe and it starts like this: "somewhere between Syria and Libya the history of Europe begins... it is a story from Greek mythology. Zeus the Godfather falls in love with Europé the daughter of the mythical Phoenician King Agenor, and she is the name-giver for Europe. So we can say, that we all somehow live around the Mare Nostrum or the Mediterranean Sea, and that is also the place where our civilizations have developed over the centuries once here and once there... but lately this exchange has become less active and it seems to me to be time to intensify and maintain this exchange again. That is, on a very small scale, the idea of the project "linking cultures" and what I find particularly important is to use it to build a platform for dialogue, especially between young people.

This dialogue is intended to address both the equal and the unequal at the same time. We are dealing with three time zones, three continents, in our case at least five languages and as many cultural areas, but also different writing systems, religions or economic and political systems. What superficially divides us is an enormous potential that connects us, if we handle it correctly. Everything should be open and we will decide together, according the discussion at the end of this first phase, when we have got to know each other, how and what we want to treat in the coming year. I see myself as organizer and moderator in this project, but everything else like topics etc. has to be agreed upon between the six schools.
